The programs of Jagriti International
center on collaboration with women's
organizations in developing countries of Africa, Asia, Latin
America and Eastern Europe. These organizations are dedicated
to strengthening the position of women in their societies through
income generation, women's rights and legal change, access to
health, education, agricultural improvement and other activities.
Jagriti International works directly with these organizations
in ways that support their own goals and objectives. We believe
that women's organizations, within their own cultures, know
best how to proceed and the Foundation's programs aim to support
their efforts by creating "bridges" between women in different
parts of the world.
For these women's organizations in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe
and Latin America, financial assistance is just one type of
support. Many organizations need technical assistance or other
skills that are difficult or expensive to access locally. Sometimes
they need a committed advocate, friend or volunteer who will
help to promote their work or issues locally, nationally or
even internationally.

The Programs of Jagriti International aim to:
|
|
|
Create bridges between
women and women's organizations throughout the world |
|
|
Awaken all participants
to a fuller understanding of their own skills, strengths
and lives |
|
Jagriti offers multiple opportunities
for direct contact with women's organizations from around the
world. For some participants this may mean merely reading the
Jagriti newsletter, where the work of women's organizations
is described. Others may choose to participate by becoming a
sponsor of a women's organization from a developing country.
Still others may choose to sponsor an Emerging Leader coming
from a developing country for a Bridging Worlds residency in
North America or Europe. For those seeking a more personal and
profound "awakening," Jagriti International offers two distinct
programs and special "interaction" events:

The Jagriti ToolsT are
a unique feature of Jagriti International programs. Jagriti International has created a set of tools which it
offers to facilitate the process of transitioning to a
new culture and volunteer role. Using journal entries,
photography, and other reflective exercises, Jagriti International
program participants will be given the opportunity to
further their own "awakening." In addition to the Jagriti
ToolsT, orientation materials will provide all program
participants with background information about the women's
groups, the country, and the conditions faced by local
women.
