| GARDEN GALLERY OF PHOTOS SENDS A GLOBAL
MESSAGE |
by Gale Reagan
|
The barest vintage peach chiffon, paired
with apricot satin, clothed the gifted young artist as she greeted
her guests last Saturday evening, May 8th. She was a vibrant
image, and seemed to move easily within an aura of warm gold
and light. This hostess was Lisa Candela, a stunning and uniquely
creative photographer who is now a contributing member of the
artistic community of Montecito.
|
| Scores of enchanted visitors from
all over the country marveled at the garden gallery of
photos she displayed at her cottage residence, which is
on the Picacho Lane estate of Richard Gilmore. Family,
friends, and fascinated collectors flew in from as far
as New York, San Francisco, Sonoma, and the Texas Hill
Country, to lend strong support to the showing. |

Many of Miss Candela's photographs speak
to the outreach efforts of Jagriti International, which embraces
the objective of women's empowerment through the Bridging Worlds
Emerging Leaders Program. This effort, headed by Mikki Andina,
endeavors to create common ground on which knowledge and resources
are shared with women throughout the world. Jagriti works with
women's organizations around the globe to facilitate international
cultural changes and cross-cultural learning. Miss Candela travels
with the group, and records a photo diary with her camera and
artistic eye. This record develops a pictorial essay of the
human exchanges which take place at the core of the organization's
activity.

The photography was creatively displayed
both indoors and out, some pieces seeming to float suspended
above the elegant landscaping. Fragrant groupings of ripe fruit
and cut flowers amidst dancing candlelight invited the awed
guests to absorb the intensely beautiful images in an enchantingly
natural setting. Fluttering satin covered lawn pillows arrayed
for guest seating on the deep grass. The winding gravel drive
became a promenade lined with blooms and flickering lights for
guests of all ages. The atmosphere encouraged many to linger
well after dark. This event was a one of a kind gathering which
paid tribute to an extremely talented photographer, and a worthy
humanitarian cause.
