Jordon Thompson

Jordan Thompson is a recent graduate from the University of Washington where she has completed a double major in Communication and Political Science. Jordan has many years experience volunteering with various organizations and would like to continue her non profit work. Her background and drive to make a difference in the world make Jordan a perfect candidate to serve as a Bridging Worlds volunteer. Jordan will be involved with WATCH (Women Acting Together for Change) a non profit organization which emphasizes helping women and disadvantage groups establish a just and equitable society.

WATCH - Women Acting Together for Change

WATCH is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 by a group of professional women. The mission of WATCH is to "establish a judicial and equitable society in which women and disadvantaged people can live in control of their own lives with honor, dignity, and due recognition." WATCH emphasizes a rights-based and participatory approach to development. WATCH believes that by increasing women's skills and knowledge, and by implementing their own decisions, women are enabled to develop greater self-confidence and self-esteem.

WATCH's membership is comprised entirely of women and is directed by a seven member Executive Board that is elected every two years. WATCH activities focus primarily on organizing women groups for the purpose of empowering women to solve problems at the local level. WATCH is most active in the areas of Women's Rights, Community Organizing, Federation Building, Health care, and Community-Based Resource Management. In addition, WATCH has a Trust Fund, which is used as an investment tool for its own sustainability.
