Emerging Leaders from
Asia, Africa, and Latin America volunteering with women's organizations
in North America and Europe
This program is only open to women who
are "emerging leaders" and active members of a women's organization
in Asia, Africa or Latin America that is registered as a Jagriti International Bridging
Worlds Host Organization. Every two years, each registered
partner organization will be asked to select an "emerging leader"
to serve as their representative to a local Bridging Worlds
Workshop at which the participants will democratically elect
Emerging Leaders to represent their country. The elected Emerging
Leaders will have the opportunity to participate in a 3-month
leadership training program in North America or Europe. The
training will include public speaking opportunities, empowerment
workshops and an internship with a woman's organization that
matches interests and areas of work of the selected Emerging
Leaders.
Women's organizations in North America and Europe offering the
internship include those providing direct services to women,
such as women's shelters, as well as other institutions whose
work focuses exclusively on women's issues. Hosts for our 2003
Bridging Worlds Emerging Leaders program included: Women's Economic
Ventures in Santa Barbara, California; Women's Funding Network
in San Francisco, California; Women's Edge in Washington D.C.;
Girls Inc. in Carpinteria, California; Center for Victims of
Torture in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and CEDPA in Washington,
D.C.
All travel, U.S. Visas, insurance and local costs for the Emerging
Leader will be covered by Jagriti International. Host families
will be recruited to provide lodging and stipends will be provided
for meals and incidentals.
