Volunteer Opportunities & Volunteer Journals

Bridging Worlds volunteers support the work and needs of a developing country women's organization by providing services, skills and capacity building. In return for sharing her skills, the volunteer benefits from the in-depth experience and understanding derived from a two - to six-month residency with that organization.

Skills the volunteer may share with the developing country woman's organization may include, but are not limited to the following areas:

Computer and Internet proficiency
Ability to use and/or teach MS Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
Web design
English language instruction
Management skills
Strategic planning
Development/fund raising experience and proposal writing
Administrative and accounting skills
Training and curriculum design
Marketing -- brochure and information development
Self defense instruction
Nursing training
Video documentary production
Housing will be organized by the host organization and in most cases will include a private room with shared bath facilities and the possibility to have meals with the host family. The volunteer will be responsible for all local costs, air travel and insurance. Volunteers are encouraged to raise their own money and Jagriti International will provide ideas and materials to help you achieve your goals. A limited number of Jagriti International scholarships are available to qualified candidates.
Estimated airfare: $1,000 - $2,500
Estimated local costs: $100 - $500 per month
Estimated health/travel insurance: approximately $150 for 6 months

To apply, you must:

1. Be a woman, 20 years of age or older;
2. Be a resident or citizen of North America, Europe or Australia;
3. Be able to volunteer for a period of two(2) to six (6) months;
4. Have a skill that is needed by a woman's organization in a developing country;
5. Agree to cover the cost of your airfare, local living costs and travel/health insurance (fund raising ideas and materials will be provided by Jagriti International);
6. Complete an application and submit a $50 processing fee (for U.S. Residents). $70 for non-US Residents (to cover additional mailing costs).
7. When accepted as a Bridging Worlds volunteer pay a $250 registration and placement fee.
   
If accepted as a Jagriti International Bridging Worlds Volunteer you must be:

1. Willing to share your skills and volunteer to work collaboratively with a women's organization;
2. Willing to learn about and respect a new culture;
3. Willing to participate in a Jagriti International orientation and use Jagriti Tools™;
4. Willing to keep a “Jagriti Journal” of your experiences as a volunteer and to post some of your journal entries on the Jagriti International website.
5. Willing to write a final report/evaluation of your experience;
6. Willing to serve as a Jagriti International Ambassador for a period of 2 years after completing the residency; (to include public speaking and fund raising for your host group)
7. Willing to have your name used in Jagriti International publications and web site.

Registrations are not being accepted at this time as Jagriti International has indefinitely suspended active programs due to heightened security concerns and stringent U.S. visa requirements.
