Jagriti International Programs : Awakening
Journeys
|
| Awakening
Journeys 2004 |
Cancelled due to security concerns
|
| Safety is a primary concern
for both our travelers and our partner women's groups. All Awakening
Journeys are designed for maximum safety while offering participants
a unique opportunity to experience the lives, work, struggles and
hope of women in the region. The Jagriti International has consciously
chosen to work in countries where women's rights, health, and futures
are at grave risk. Despite the strides made by women's groups in the
region, they cannot do it alone. They need the support of people around
the globe who believe in their fight for justice and who are willing
to bear witness to their efforts and courage. Leaving the relative
safety of one's own home is an important first step in building bridges
of peace and understanding between people of the world. We welcome
you to join us for this special opportunity |

Join us as we travel to Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nepal
to participate in Bridging Worlds Workshops organized and led
by our 2003 Emerging Leaders and their organizations. This is
a unique opportunity to meet and learn about the work of Jagriti's
partner women's groups and to observe the democratic selection
of Bridging Worlds Emerging Leaders for 2005. It's also a powerful
and essential way to demonstrate global solidarity and sisterhood
with the courageous and important work of women's organizations
in the region.
Each workshop will last 2 days (3 in India) and the remaining
time will be dedicated to experiencing the social, cultural,
economic and religious life of women. Site visits to women's
groups, study guides and lectures/discussions with local experts
will provide an in-depth understanding of the status of women
in each country. Visits to cultural sites and opportunities
to support the local economy will also be included.
Travelers are invited to join us for one, two, three or four
weeks (+ trekking), noting that each week we will be visiting
a different country. Participants should plan to attend the
first day in each country at which time an important cultural
orientation will be provided. The price for each week is $1,200
- $1,700 and includes local hotel, food, travel, airport transfers,
and tax. International airfare, visas, telecommunications, laundry
and alcohol are not included. Hotel accommodations range from
2-3 stars depending upon the country. Single accommodations
may be available for an additional fee. $100 per week donation
will be requested for "gratitude grants" to be given to the
women's groups visited. The maximum number of travelers is 15,
so please make your reservations ($500 deposit) as soon as possible.
A discount will be available for those participating in more
than one week's journey.
Travelers must secure their own visas and international airfare,
but the Jagriti International and our consulting travel agent will
be available to facilitate these matters. |
