| Awakening Journeys provide cross-cultural
travel for women and men who are interested in visiting
those places and cities that are hard to find on many
maps. Jagriti International Awakening Journeys are custom
designed to suit the needs, interest and pocketbooks of
your travel group. Awakening Journeys normally range from
8-28 days and provide an in-depth look at women's issues
in each country. As a participant you can visit one, two
or three countries, depending on your time and pocketbook.
Select a country where your group would like to visit
and learn about women and women's organizations. We recommend
a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 participants. |

Your Awakening Journey will
be accompanied by local and international experts who will provide
in-depth information about the culture, conditions and status
of women in that country. It's also a journey about meeting
people and having opportunities to learn directly from women
themselves, about their culture, their hopes and fears. Important
tourist sights will be included and you will have ample time
to support the local economy (i.e. to shop -- many women's organization
produce and sell beautiful handicrafts).
In each country you will have the opportunity to meet and visit
women's organizations working on such issues as women's rights,
women's literacy and girls education, reproductive and sexual
health, income generation, domestic violence, childhood labor
and prostitution. Some of the women's organizations serve as
hosts to a Jagriti International Bridging
Worlds volunteer. Other groups have applied to work with Jagriti International and the visit will provide an opportunity
to meet the organization's members and learn more about its
work.

A recommended reading list and package of information
about the destination country will be provided to
launch an Awakening Journey. A set of Jagriti ToolsT
allows each participant to enhance her own personal
"awakening." These tools, developed specifically
for Jagriti International, are a unique feature
of the Awakening Journey. Through journal entries,
photography, and other reflective exercises, the
Jagriti ToolsT will allow for a deeper exploration
of one's own cultural and gender roles. |

Awakening Journeys are an ideal way for your local women's organization,
book club, alumni association, sorority or just a group of friends
to celebrate special birthdays or milestone events with a meaningful
Awakening Journey. The maximum number of participants in an
Awakening Journey will be 20. Both men and women are welcome.
Each journey will be tailor-made for your group. All travel
will be coordinated by Jagriti International. Prices will vary
depending on the number of countries visited, city of departure,
class of travel and type of accommodations. The package price
includes costs for local consultants, translators, guides, accommodations,
airport transfers, local transportation, and administrative
expenses. Also included in the per person package price will
be a $100 donation (tax-deductible) to be given to the Women's
Organizations visited during the journey.
The package price does not include costs for your passport,
visa, or required immunizations. Participants will be notified
of any medical or visa requirements for their Journey. All participants
must have health insurance, but short-term insurance can be
easily purchased at a nominal cost.
